☀️ Sun Safety: Simple Tips to Protect Your Family

We all know the dangers of too much sun, yet sometimes it’s easy to forget to apply protection—especially when the weather finally warms up and we just want to enjoy it! To help you and your family stay safe while making the most of sunny days, here are some simple, practical tips.

👕 1. Wrap, Splat, Hat – easy to remember!

  • Wrap children in light clothing or a t-shirt.

  • Splat on plenty of sunscreen, and reapply frequently—especially after swimming, sweating, or towelling dry.

  • Pop on a hat and sunglasses for extra protection.

⏱️ 2. Don’t stay too long in the sun

No sunscreen offers 100% protection. Limit exposure and take breaks in the shade to avoid sunburn and heat exhaustion.

🌡️ 3. Get the factor right

Choose a sunscreen with the right SPF and UVA rating for your skin type. Remember: babies and very young children should be kept out of direct sunlight altogether.

🔁 4. Apply, then reapply

Sunscreen should be applied before going outside and topped up regularly to stay effective. Reapply generously after swimming, sweating, or towel-drying.

🕛 5. Avoid the midday sun

The sun’s rays are strongest between 11am and 3pm. During these hours, seek shade, take breaks indoors, or enjoy a picnic under a tree or parasol.

👒 6. Nothing beats a cover-up

Sunscreen is important, but it’s not enough on its own. Loose cotton clothing, wide-brimmed hats, and UV-protective sunglasses add an extra layer of defence.

🌞 7. Know your rays

  • UVB rays peak in summer. They burn the skin and can cause lasting damage.

  • UVA rays are present year-round—even on cloudy days. They penetrate deeper, leading to premature ageing and long-term skin damage.

👉 This is why sun protection matters every day, not just on the beach in July.

Final Thoughts

With a little preparation, you and your family can enjoy the sunshine safely and confidently. Remember: wrap up, apply sunscreen, reapply often, and seek shade when you can. Healthy habits now mean healthy skin for years to come. 💜
